January & February: Time to evaluate your group!
Taking the time to evaluate how your small group functions, what has worked, what hasnt and whats been left out is critical to the health of your group. Hopefully you formed a covenant at the formation of your group that describe your goals and purposes. Review your covenant and make necessary reminders and changes if necessary. Here are some questions to consider:
- What do we like about our group?
- In what way has this group met our expectations?
- Have we fulfilled our covenant, purposes and goals? Why, why not?
- What one or two things have inhibited our groups spiritual growth?
- In what way can we improve our group life together?
- In what way does our group support the life of the church?
- What is the quality of our group sharing, reflection and prayer?
- Describe our best meeting and what made it successful?
- In what way are we involved in mission and outreach?
- How successful are we in spiritual accountability to one another?
- In what ways can we improve our depth of spiritual formation?
Sound like too much work? Experience shows that groups who take the time to work with evaluations bond faster and become more effective venues for spiritual and personal growth. End of the fall is perfect for review. Please dont neglect this important element of group process!
